Adidas Yeezy 380 Review

adidas-Yeezy-Boost-380-Calcite-Glow-size-chart

The 380 is one of the best Yeezys to ever release.

One of the best ways to get to know your sneaker more intimately is to actually bring it with you when you travel, and that’s exactly what I did.

Not only are you logging in so many steps, but you’re also exposing the shoe to different situations.

Do Yeezy 380 Run Small?

The Yeezy 380 fits on the snug side of the spectrum, which means you need to go a half size up, but if you have narrow feet, you can go true to size. But if you have wide feet, I would recommend that you either go at least half a size up or if you have super wide feet, you go a full size up.

Here’s a detailed section where Alex talks about whether the Yeezy 380 runs true to size, big, or small.

Better Cushioning

The 380 has one of the best cushioning setups that I’ve ever seen on a Yeezy. The Boost that they put in the midsole is slightly thicker than your typical 350.

But the biggest difference of the feeling while you are walking in them is the part at the back under your heel.

You really feel better cushioning, there’s better bounce-back as well, and it’s an all-around superior walking feeling compared to the Yeezy Boost 350, the 700, or even the 500s.

So, if you ask me, I think the 380 is the most comfortable Yeezy that Kanye has ever made to date.

Alongside the comfort is stability…

Better Stability

One of my main issues with the Yeezy Boost 350 is that if you walk in them for an extended period, you actually get foot fatigue because the surface is just flat and there isn’t enough arch support.

If you take a look at the 380, the midsole is built with better arch support and the heel is a little bit beveled.

So, after wearing the 380 for a long period of time, I didn’t get the foot fatigue that I would normally get if I was wearing your typical sneaker and that’s, I think, one of the best things about the 380.

Cons

One thing that a lot of people don’t love about the 380 so far is the fact that they went with a sock-like liner on the top of the shoe.

It’s actually a little bit more of a pain in the neck to actually put the 380 on because of how small of a narrow-like passage this is.

Not only that but the 380 doesn’t have a pull tab and so you do have to exert some effort to be able to slip it on your feet.

It’s not as simple as the UltraBoost 4.0, it’s not as simple as the Yeezy 350 with the pull tabs, nor is it as easy as the Yeezy 700.

This reminded me of what Adidas did with the UltraBoost OG and the UltraBoost Uncaged.

The regular UltraBoost was really good and the Uncaged one was snug in the collar. It’s just really odd that they’d be doing the same sort of treatment to the Yeezys by doing the bunched-up sock-fit on the 380 model.

Adidas Yeezy 380 vs. 350

The 380 looks like the Yeezy 350 in a sense where you have the same lacing pattern.

Yeezy 380 vs. 350 Sizing

I am a true 9.5. I got the 9 on the 350 V1 but I had to take out the insole and they fit me just fine.

Oddly enough, the 350v2 fit really snug and I actually went up to a size 10. If I do have 9.5, I would take out the insoles as well.

With the 380s, I would go with the size 10, not a 9.5 personally, but I do have a little bit of a wider foot.

Upper

The 380 features a Primeknit upper which is a little bit stiffer than the 350 V2.

It also has a one-piece upper but the tongue on the 380 does not protrude outwards. It’s actually bunched at the top giving it more of a sock-like look and feel.

Adidas also kept the same translucent material on the side which is see-through when you actually wear them.

A lot of people weren’t really loving the Alien colorway particularly. The upper is not very original, but it is a little bit different because it does feel thicker in some places and thinner in others, which gives it a little bit more dynamic to that one-piece knit upper.

Midsole

The midsole on the 380s is totally different as well and there is more Boost in the 380 compared to the 350v2 and you can feel the cushioning back in the heel.

The 350s had that ribbed-like look to it like the 350 V1, but they smoothed that out completely on the 380.

The other major difference between the 350 and the 380 other than the ribbing gone from the midsole is the curvature of the midsole.

The heel of the 380 is off the ground a good inch and a half or so while the back of the 350 v2 is just barely off the ground.

When you step in the 380, it does kind of rock you forward, which is a different sensation than you’re used to from the 350s.

It’s definitely going to take you some getting used to, but the amount of Boost on the 380s is significantly better as well.

Matched with a softer midsole, it definitely is more felt than in the 350 v2 or the 350 v1.

Comfort

So, comfort-wise, the 380 is the winner in my books even though it is a little bit different and unique with that step because of that really weird protruding horn on the back of the shoe.

The more you wear the 380, the more comfortable it gets. Out of the box, they kind of feel stiffer and a little bit less comfortable, which makes the 380 is a sneaker that you really need to break in.

Outsole

The traction pattern on the bottom is just a slow evolution. The traction looks a little bit crazier, but it actually is really good.

Adidas Yeezy 380 FAQ

Do Yeezy 380 run small, big, or true to size?

Yes. The Yeezy 380 runs true to size if you have narrow or normal feet. If you have wider feet, you’ll need to go half a size up.

What is the retail of the Yeezy 380?

The 380 “Alien” colorway debuted at retail in 2019 with an MSRP of $230.

Do Yeezy 380 glow-in-the-dark?

As of 2020 Fall season, the 380 will be available in two .

Both the “Hylte Glow” and “Calcite Glow” styles feature a Neon Yellow and White-based color blocking, respectively. These will also glow-in-the-dark.

Do you wear socks with Yeezy 380?

Thanks to Kanye’s great original designs, Yeezys normally do not require a lot to stand out as they will naturally attract attention. Just wear your 380 with no-show socks and let the heads turn for you.

The upper does have translucent on it so when you wear socks, you’re going to see them. I always stick to white socks so they blend in with the upper especially with the Alien or the Calcite Colorways.

If you wear black socks or any color sock, you would definitely notice it through the translucent part of the upper.

In conclusion, I really feel that the 380 is a great step forward for Kanye and the Yeezy line.

With what’s going on with the Yeezy 380, it’s kind of not far-fetched that you eventually see a Yeezy running shoe or a Yeezy training shoe or other types of Yeezy sneakers for different kinds of athletic use.

This is a great prelude to the Yeezy basketball which we will be seeing soon.

So, that was the Adidas Yeezy 380 size chart and I hope I was able to provide you with as much info as possible.
