i was a huge fan of the 7s, went through 2 pairs of bondis which were not as good and still not bad. i just the clifton 8s (online purchase) and its a no. a big no. 3 weeks in and i feel these are less quality and tighter. i don't know the techical term for what i felt in the 7s - "baby cherub cloud" feeling - but i definitely don't get that in the 8s.

i am VERY thankful you wrote this post as well as for the fellow commenters. i don't want to give up on HOKA so I'll take an afternoon and try in the gaviotas and other bondis.

I just had to get new shoes and so I went with the Clifton 8. They are nothing like the 7. So sad when a good shoe is changed for the worse. They slip on my right foot causing hot spots . I will wear them as hoka is my favorite and I can’t find Hoka Clifton 7 in my size or at a reasonable price

Thank you so much for making this review. It was detailed and just enough. I like how you described all the aspects of the shoes and it helped me to keep that in mind while looking for a walking shoe.

So sorry to hear that. Maybe try every online store and I'm sure you could find stores still having some 7's. Good luck.

Have had several pairs of 7's, and recently bought the 8. Toe box clearly is bigger, resulting in a sloppy fit and great discomfort. It's a drag that I have two 8's, both of which feel awful. Wish I could land some 7's! But they are impossble to find.

I have 4 pairs of the 7's and I'm glad I did. I just bought the 8 and I HATE IT! The mesh is very thin, and I can see my toes through it. I have bunions, hammertoes and now flat feet and these 8's seem lower meaning when I move, my feet almost come out of them. My toes now hit the toe box and there's definitely less room than the 7's. So disappointed....I'll probably be returning these. Why don't they just leave things alone!!!

I’ve worn Clifton’s since the 3. Upgraded every time no problems.
I dislike the clifton 8. Too much room and I get hotspots. They feel wider and even walking I get side slippage. I might try going down a half size. But that has different problems. First time I haven’t loved my Clifton’s!

I upgraded and after a few runs grabbed some Clifton 7s when they were released. I’m not happy with the 8s because I feel their too loose and any run more than 3ish miles I start to get hot spots. It doesn’t feel nearly as snug as the 7. I ordered the 8s on-line since I knew my size, but I think if I drop half a size I’ll eliminate the side issue but when I’m ready to replace I’ll try them at a local store first to be sure. Although if I see any 7s for a discount out there I’ll just buy those to put them away for when I need new ones. Right now my 8s only get used for short runs or when I travel (because they’re so loose they’re great for flying.)
